Clostridial Myositis: Evaluation of Normal Equine Skeletal Muscles for the Presence of Clostridial Spores
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dormant clostridial spores are present in healthy skeletal muscle. Inflammatory events caused by a local and/or systemic insult may lead to development of an anaerobic environment suitable for germination of dormant spores in skeletal muscle and consequent clostridial myositis or clostridial myonecrosis. Non-traumatic clostridial myositis: an unusual feature of brain death.
In a case of brain death, a Clostridium sordellii and Escherichia coli septicaemia--of probable gastrointestinal origin--developed and was associated with a diffuse clostridial myositis. Factors responsible for the initiation and development of this unusual clostridial infection are discussed.
متن کاملAn unusual necrotic myositis by Clostridium perfringens in a German Shepherd dog: A clinical report, bacteriological and molecular identification
Clostridial myositis, considered to be rare in pet animals, is an acutely fatal toxaemic condition. Some species of clostridia are responsible for necrotic myositis. A 2-year-old male German shepherd dog was admitted with non-weight bearing lameness and massive swelling of the left hind limb. Clostridium perfringens type A with alpha toxin was diagnosed as a pathogenic agent. Based on ...

Intravenously injected spores of a number of species of nonpathogenic clostridia localized and germinated in tumor tissue but not in normal tissues of the mouse. In tumors of sufficient size liquefaction of an apparently substantial amount of viable tumor tissue occurred leading to statistically significant reduction of tumor weight in treated animals. Conditions for the quantitative measuremen...
